Scoring a Match

Things to remember when scoring a match

bullet It is your responsibility to score your match. It is not the responsibility of the commissioner. For those of you unfamiliar with our scoring, I hope this helps.  If you have trouble, there are always veteran league members available to help you. 
bullet Always include first and last names and team numbers.
bullet Once the match is scored, a member from each team must sign the card.
bullet Once the card is signed, the points will stand.
bullet There are a total of 6 points available each week.
bulletPlayer A vs. Player A = 1 pt for stroke play
bulletPlayer A vs. Player A = 1 pt for match play
bulletPlayer B vs. Player B = 1 pt for stroke play
bulletPlayer B vs. Player b = 1 pt for match play
bulletTeam 1 vs. Team 2 =  1 pt for stroke play
bulletTeam 1 vs. Team 2 =  1 pt for match play

Player vs. Player stroke play (2 Points)

bullet Stroke Play is decided by the total gross score for all 9 holes minus the players handicap.
bullet The team member with the lower handicap is always the 'A' player. If team members have the same handicap, they can choose who the 'A' player is. They must announce their decision before teeing off.

'A' Player match - Greg's gross score is 40.  After subtracting his 7 handicap, he nets a 33.  Dan's gross score is a 45.  After subtracting his 9 handicap, he nets a 36.  Team #1 (Greg) wins 1 full point.

'B' Player match - Mike's gross score is 43.  After subtracting his 9 handicap, he nets a 34.  Tom's gross score is a 48.  After subtracting his 14 handicap, he nets a 34.  Team #1 (Mike) wins 1/2 point and Team #2 (Tom) wins 1/2 point.

Player vs. Player Match play (2 Points)

bulletMatch play is decided by the number of holes won by each player.
bulletHandicaps are used to decide which holes the higher handicap player will receive strokes. 
bulletThe number of holes where a player receives a stroke is determined by subtracting the lower players handicap from the higher handicap player. 
bulletWhich holes the player receives strokes is determined by the score card.  If a players is receiving 3 strokes, it will be on the holes marked as 1,2 & 3 on the scorecards Men's HDCP. 
bulletThe lower handicap player will give one stroke per hole maximum.

'A' Player match - Greg wins 3 holes, Dan wins 2 holes.  Team #1 (Greg) receives 1 full point. 

bulletDan is receiving 2 strokes from Greg. (Dan's 9 Hdcp minus Greg's 7 Hdcp). 
bulletDan receives the strokes on holes 4 & 5 (The #1 & #2 Handicap holes on this nine determined by the scorecard) 
bulletHoles 1,2,3,6,7,8 & 9 will be played straight up. 
bulletThe scoring for holes where no strokes are given... Greg wins holes 1,6 & 8.  Dan wins hole 9.  Holes 2,3 & 7 are pushes. 
bulletThe scoring for holes where strokes are given... Hole #4 is a push even though Dan's score is one higher due to his handicap stroke. Hole #5 is won by Dan even though the scores are the same due to Dan's handicap stroke.

'B' Player match - Mike wins 2 holes, Tom wins 3 holes.  Team #2 (Tom) receives 1 full point. 

bulletTom is receiving 5 strokes from Mike.  (Tom's 14 Hdcp minus Mike's 9 Hdcp). 
bulletTom receives the strokes on holes 3,4,5,8 & 9 (The #1 through #5 Handicap holes on this nine determined by the scorecard) 
bulletHoles 1,2,6 & 7 will be played straight up. 
bulletThe scoring for holes where no strokes are given... Mike wins holes 2 & 6.  Hole 1 & 7 are pushes. 
bulletThe scoring for holes where strokes are given... Tom wins hole #3 outright.  Hole #4 & #8 are pushes even though Mike's score is one higher since Tom receives a stroke.  Holes #5 & #9 are won by Tom even though the scores are the same due to Tom's handicap stroke.

Team vs. Team Stroke Play (1 Point)

bulletTeam Stroke Play is decided by the total gross score for both players for all 9 holes minus the total of each teams handicap.

Team 1's score = Greg's gross score is 40.  After subtracting his 7 handicap, he nets a 33.  Mike's gross score is 43.  After subtracting his 9 handicap, he nets a 34.  Team #1 nets 77.  Team #1 wins 1 point for team stroke play.

Team 2's score = Dan's gross score is a 45.  After subtracting his 9 handicap, he nets a 36.  Tom's gross score is a 48.  After subtracting his 14 handicap, he nets a 34.  Team #2 nets 80.

Team vs. Team Match Play (1 Point)

bulletTeam Match Play is decided by the total number of holes won by individual players for each team.
bulletHandicaps are used to decide which holes the higher handicap players will receive strokes.  All players will essentially compete for the hole against the lowest handicap player.
bulletThe number of holes where players receive strokes is determined by subtracting the lowest players handicap from all higher handicap players.  (Even partners will receive a strokes, if their handicap is higher.)
bulletWhich holes the player receives strokes is determined by the score card.  If a players is receiving 3 strokes, it will be on the holes marked as 1,2 & 3 on the scorecards Men's HDCP. 
bulletThe lower handicap player will give one stroke per hole maximum. 

Example:

Team # 2 wins the Team Match Point - 3 holes to 1.

  1. (Tom receives a stroke) Push - Greg's low of 4 is pushed by Tom's 5 since he is receiving a stroke.
  2. (No strokes received) Push - Greg and Mike's low of 4 is pushed by Dan's 4.
  3. (Tom receives a stroke) Win Team#2 - Tom's low of 4 wins outright
  4. (Tom, Mike & Dan receive a stroke) Win Team#1 - Mike's low of 5 is an net 4 since he receives a stroke.  Dan and Tom's 6 only nets a 5.
  5. (Tom, Mike & Dan receive a stroke) Push - The low score is a 5 and Mike, Tom and Dan all net a 4. 
  6. (No strokes received) Push - Greg's low of 3 wins the hole.
  7. (Tom receives a stroke) Win Team#2 - Tom's low of 5 wins over Mike's since he is the only one receiving a stroke and nets a 4.
  8. (Tom receives a stroke) Push - Greg's and Mike's low of 5 is pushed by Tom's 6 since he is receiving a stroke.
  9. (Tom receives a stroke) Win Team#2 - Dan's low of 4 is only matched by Tom's net 4.  Team #2 wins the hole.
